Junior Tyson Tour Bursary

The Les Thomas Bursary began in 1981, with Dan Quinn winning $350, The Les Thomas Bursary was intended to assist in the development of junior golfers living in the London area. The amount of $350 was awarded to the winner of the Les Thomas Tournament from 1981 to 2006. (See the Les Thomas section of the website for a list of winners.)

The Junior Tyson Tour Bursary was started by PGA professional Fred Kern in 2001, offering division champions $500 to be used in furthering their education. Between 2001 and 2024, the Junior Tyson Tour has awarded over $100,000 to London and area junior golfers to assist them with their college and university education.

Bursaries are available to those who meet the criteria and may be used only if a player attends a university or college either in Canada or the US. The Committee alternatively may approve a bursary for a post-secondary pathway that includes an educational apprenticeship.

The bursary winner must submit the name of their school of higher learning, student number, school address to where the funds will be sent, the funds are sent directly to the school, or alternatively an approved RESP. Funds are to be returned if the student drops out before graduating, bursary must be used before the player turns 24 years of age, bursary is paid in Canadian funds.
